Mission

La Roca’s ethos blends sustainability, local inspiration, and global execution. With a focus on minimizing waste and crafting everything from scratch, the restaurant emphasizes honest, high-quality food. Traditional Newfoundland produce is reimagined with international influences, particularly from Galicia, while drawing on global culinary experiences.

 

The dining experience features a set menu served in a single sitting at a long communal table, offered five times per week. This intimate format, shaped by the small team and setting, fosters a relaxed atmosphere and allows for a social, high-quality meal.

 

Locally sourced ingredients take center stage, with every dish inspired by the surrounding environment and culture. This approach supports sustainability while celebrating the rich flavors and traditions of the region.

The Food

Each dish at La Roca tells a story, drawing inspiration from Newfoundland to Galicia and incorporating flavors from Spain, Asia, Africa, and beyond. These global connections reflect diverse experiences and traditions, resulting in a fusion of flavors that transcend borders.

 

The menu celebrates overlooked or forgotten ingredients, highlighting the shared connections between cultures and showcasing how deeply intertwined they are. Cod, both fresh and salted, along with exceptional local seafood, takes center stage as a nod to the region’s culinary heritage.

 

La Roca offers a set menu of three or more courses, tailored to seasonal availability and the freshest ingredients. With a flexible approach, the menu adapts to accommodate allergies or preferences, creating a dining experience that surprises, delights, and reflects a commitment to quality and creativity.

Our carefully curated wine list brings together the best of both worlds: Spanish wines and Canadian VQA gems.

Expect to be pleasantly surprised by affordable, high-quality wines that you won’t easily find elsewhere, some of them exclusively imported just for our restaurant from Spain

 

We believe the perfect glass of wine should complement your meal without breaking the bank. That’s why our pricing is refreshingly different from the traditional Canadian markups, making great wine accessible to everyone.

 

We haven’t forgotten beer lovers either! Our selection of local craft brews is just as thoughtfully chosen, and priced. 

 

And for those skipping the alcohol, we’ve got you covered with sugar-free sodas, alcohol-free beer, and sparkling water.

The menu

At La Roca, the menu is never fixed in advance. We cook according to what inspires us each day — guided by the season, the market, the number of guests, and what simply needs to be cooked. There is no printed menu to study beforehand; instead, we ask you to place your trust in our kitchen and let the ingredients of the day shape your experience.

 

We serve one evolving set menu to everyone at the table. This approach allows us to concentrate on balance and flow — courses that tell a story, ingredients that are at their very best, and combinations that reflect both the moment and our surroundings on the Newfoundland coast. With each service, the plates change, and no two evenings are quite the same.

 

Dining at La Roca is designed to be simple, personal, and immersive. Free from advance choices or expectations, you can relax and allow the meal to unfold naturally. We look forward to welcoming you to our table.
